Late teens and college is the time where most of us start experimenting with makeup! It is always good to start with a few basic items like tinted lip balms and pencil liners and slowly graduate to lipsticks/blushes depending on how comfortable you are wearing them. Besides being simple and easy to use, college makeup-must haves should also be pocket-friendly!
Being a college student myself, despite my *love* for makeup, I like to keep my college look simple and fresh. A hint of color on the lips and eyes and some tinted sunscreen and compact to even out skin and take care of oiliness is all I need on most days.
Here are my top 5 makeup recommendations for teens and college going girls.
1. Tinted moisturizer/Sunscreen
2 Cardinal rules -
- No matter what you skin type, age, profession- always use a moisturizer suited to your skin type.
- Never ever forget your sunscreen and sunblock!!
At this age, you don’t need to cake your skin with foundation for everyday basis. A tinted moisturizer with SPF or a sunscreen is just enough to give the right look to your skin.
My picks -
- Lotus Herbals 3-in-1 matte sunscreen SPF 40 (Rs 175)
- Oriflame very me peach tinted moisturizer ( Rs 279- can be picked up for lesser on offer)
- Ponds Tinted moisturizer (Rs 215)
- Biotique bio redwood tinted moisturizer (Rs 299)
2. Compact
A pressed powder or compact sets the moisturizer and keeps it in place longer. It also helps in oil control and keeps the face look fresh and shine free longer. Must have for oily skinned beauties. Also, it can be easily carried for touch ups during the day.
My picks -
- Maybelline whitestay UV compact (Rs 150)
- Avon simply pretty pressed powder (Rs 115- 179)
- Lakme pure radiance compact (Rs 150)
- Lotus herbals pure radiance compact (Rs 275)
- Lakme Rose powder (Rs 90)
3. Pencil eye liners
Perfect to define, contour and line eyes – pencil form allows easier and faster application than liquid and gel liners. Colored liners add a nice touch to the face and are girly and fun.
My picks -
- Bourjois kohl and contour pencils (Rs 240)
- Faces long wear eye liners (Rs 249)
- Avon glimmersticks eye liners (between Rs 189- 249)
- Colorbar I-glide eye pencils (Rs 325)
4. Tinted lip balm/ lip gloss
Personally I feel that if I had to choose just 1 must-have, it would be lip product. It instantly adds freshness and color to the face! For college wear, just a tint of color is enough. Tinted lip balms or lip gloss gives a hint of color with a bit of shine and gloss to keep the look fresh. Can be carried along for touch ups during the day.
My picks -
- Nivea Fruity Shine lip balms (cult favorite! Rs 139)
- Maybelline color sensational lip gloss (Rs 250)
- Lakme lip love tinted lip conditioner (Rs 225)
- Avon glazewear lip gloss (Rs 145-Rs 329)
- Lotus Herbals seduction lip gloss (Rs 225)
5. Mascara
And lastly, the highly underrated magic wand- the mascara!! After my compact (for my oily skin!), lip balm/gloss, my third makeup must have for everyday is Mascara. It gives definition and a more fresh, awake look to the eyes (we all need in the morning right )
My picks -
- Avon super curlacious mascara (Rs 299)
- Maybelline define-a-lash mascara (Rs 315)
- Maybelline colossal volume mascara (Rs 275)
- Lotus Herbals maxlash botanical mascara (Rs 245)
